Achievement Testing for Homeschoolers
Parallel Education Services has transitioned away from administering the IOWA Tests in person for achievement testing as the form we used previously is no longer being published.
We have researched several alternative achievement tests, and information about three types that can be administered at home is outlined below.
IOWA Assessments Online
For K5-grade 8
BJU Press's website outlines information about the types of online assessments they offer, one of which is the IOWA Assessments Online. It can be administered by parents at home but must be completed on the testing dates available and they are all in the Eastern Time zone. The test is all online, administered in multiple sections, over the course of two consecutive days. The test must be completed during the allotted time given. Find out more details about this assessment here.
Personal Achievement Summary System (PASS)
For grades 3-8
With the PASS Test, parents are sent the testing materials and will have a four-week window during which to test their child in reading, language, and mathematics. The tests are all untimed.
You may sign up for this test directly with Hewitt Homeschooling, the foundation behind the test. The description, pricing and online order form can be found on this page. Despite what it says on their website, we have confirmed with them that they do ship overseas.
California Achievement Test (CAT)
For grades 3-8
The CAT can be administered by parents at home. The test is all online, administered in multiple sections, and you are given the flexibility of choosing when to complete the test; so there are no time zones to contend with. Tests are scored immediately, with comprehensive results available right away.
